Nissan’s intelligent all-wheel-drive system makes driving the X-Trail seven-seater a breeze – whether on city streets or country lanes

The Nissan X-Trail is a spacious, feature-packed SUV with space for up to seven seats.

Given the car’s name, you might expect it to be engineered purely for muddy country roads – especially if you opt for a model that features Nissan’s intelligent All-Mode 4x4-i system. But there’s far more to the X-Trail than that.

While the All-Mode 4x4-i system and strong chassis ensure the X-Trail can cope with rough conditions with ease, it’s equally at home negotiating city streets or putting in big motorway miles.

That’s because the All-Mode 4x4-i works with a range of other intelligent driver-assistance features to make your drive safer and more enjoyable – whether you’re on the road, or off it. To demonstrate how it works, we put the X-Trail through a series of challenges.

To find out more, just watch this video.

The tests highlighted how the All-Mode 4x4-i system automatically adjusts the power and torque going to each wheel, ensuring maximum grip in all conditions. In good conditions, the system means the X-Trail runs in two-wheel-drive mode to maximise fuel economy. But when there’s less grip, the system can respond 30 times quicker than the blink of an eye.

That intelligent all-wheel-drive system works with other innovative systems available for the X-Trail, including Active Trace Control and Active Ride Control, to ensure the driver is always in command.

The X-Trail includes a host of other features, including an Around View Monitor and parking sensors that makes tight manoeuvres easy. And that’s because the X-Trail isn’t just designed for rugged, off-road action – it’s packed with technology to ensure that you’re always in control.
