Kia and Ford plan to reveal 4x4 concept cars at the Detroit show

Kia and Ford have both revealed plans for new off-roaders, due to make their debut at the North American Internation Auto Show in Detroit next month.

Kia’s Soul concept model offers a sporty look derived from the Mesa concept car that appeared at the 2005 Detroit motor show, with a wrap-around windscreen, sloping roofline and bulky, muscular wheel arches. It also features a separate compartment at the rear designed for storing muddy clothes or shoes.

The Ford Edge, due to go on sale towards the end of 2006, features a bold design punctuated by an imposing front grille. Power will come from a 3.5-litre V6 engine coupled with six-speed automatic transmission.
