Reader Tim Martin was one of the hot Golf’s potential customers and got the same story from all three dealerships that he visited. ‘One salesman admitted that deals are no longer on the table,’ he said. ‘I’ve been told that the car has had such a good reception waiting lists are growing and they won’t give any money off.’ Even deals from usually reliable online brokers aren’t quite as healthy as they were: drivethedeal.co.uk will still give you four-figure discounts – but delivery won’t be until September.
