Currently reading: High prices for high-revving RX-8

It looks like bad news if you were expecting to pick up a used Mazda RX-8 on the cheap. Even though there’s no shortage of choice of nearly new ones on the forecourt, prices are holding firm. Typical of the deals we spotted was a main dealer 231bhp version in green on an 04 plate with delivery miles for £19,995. That looked better value than the lower-powered version with the same plate and mileage, on sale closer to London at £20,100. There are fewer bargains if you’re in the hunt for a car equipped with sat-nav. These tend to fetch about a grand more, typified by the red 53-plate car we spotted with 10k on the clock, up for £20,700. The Nissan 350Z is holding up just as well. Anything cheap is likely to be an import and you’re still paying close to list for a pukka UK-spec car. Witness the 04-plate 1000 mile example we spotted, with full-house spec including Rays alloys, on sale for £28,750. The Chrysler Crossfire, however, is shaping up to be a better used buy. Despite having a £27,280 list price, an ’04 04-plate auto with 1000 miles is currently fetching £21,950.
