Currently reading: Kia not sunk despite crash

If you’ve got a deposit on a new Kia, there’s a chance you might be in for a longer wait than expected. A recent sea crash with a super tanker sent 4000 Kias straight to the bottom of the South China Sea, as well as one Hyundai – the gargantuan M.V. Hyundai 105 freighter they were in transit on.

As many as 1,300 of the Rios, Sorentos (right), Carens, Sedonas and Picantos (above) lost were bound for the UK, although the majority had not yet been allocated to individual dealers.

Kia is confident that the accident will not slow its burgeoning sales growth, however. ‘We are bringing forward shipping schedules to minimize any effect on waiting lists,’ a spokeman assured us. ‘Customers will not find empty showrooms because of the collision.’
