Mercedes has finalised prices of the new A-class, due in showrooms on 19 February. At launch the range will kick off with the £13,655 A150 Classic three-door – around £620 less than the original A140 Classic cost seven years ago – and rise to the £19,995 A200 CDi five-door.

Classic trim includes front and side airbags, speed-sensitive power steering and a CD player. Classic SE, Elegance SE and Avantgarde SE trim levels add electric rear windows, imitation leather upholstery and other options for up to £1995 extra.

Buyers will have to pay more if they want the new car’s Easy Vario Plus removable seats, metallic paint or a reach-adjustable steering wheel.
