The Daewoo name is to be replaced in the UK by Chevrolet, and this 4x4 will be the first new car after the changeover. All Daewoo models and dealers will be rebranded Chevrolet from 1 January, as part of GM’s plan to make Chevy into its affordable global brand.
The new 4x4, shown here in concept form and dubbed S3X, will be sold in th UK from spring next year. Based on the US-market Saturn Vue, the S3X has a monocoque chassis, a Korean-built 2.0-litre turbodiesel and three rows of seats. The production car is expected to offer 2.0-litre four-cylinder and 2.5-litre V6 petrols.
To be built in Korea, the S3X will also be the basis for the next Vauxhall Frontera. Two wheelbases will be available – the Chevy will use the long wheelbase with five or seven seats, while the Frontera will be short-wheelbase with five seats and have sportier styling with a sweeping roofline like the new Astra three-door.
The S3X will spearhead a new product offensive from Chevy, including a new Chevrolet Matiz, to be revealed at Paris as the M3X concept, a Nubira estate (right) and Kalos Sport next year.
