The resurgence of Japan’s car makers will get a further boost this week, when Mazda formally announces an expected ‘significant’ jump in profits for the first half of the year.
Mirroring the miraculous recovery of Nissan under Carlos Ghosn, Mazda’s Millennium Plan is tipped to deliver 225,000 European registrations this year – 5000 more than expected.
Volkswagen, however, warned last week that its profits would more than halve this year. It blamed a strong euro, faltering demand and the cost of cutting jobs in Brazil.
