Mitsubishi has announced that it will launch a plug-in hybrid conept vehicle at the Tokyo motor show in October, likely to be based on a revised version of the Concept cX.
The new car is the next step in Mitsubishi’s alternative energy strategy, which involves the full electrification of city cars, with plug-in hybrids catering for the next segment up.
The Mitsubishi Concept cX, a small sub-Outlander SUV, has been revised to become the Mitsubishi zC, which would provide Mitsubishi with a rival for the forthcoming production version of the Nissan Qazana.
Sources who have seen the production zC say it uses the hatchback rear end from the Lancer Sportback combined with a raised ground clerance, and that gives it the look of a mini Racing Lancer, the firm’s Dakar rally contender.
It will be built on the firm’s GS platform, already in use in the Lancer and Outlander. The production version is at least three years away.
