Nissan recalls 2.6m cars

Nearly 110,000 British Nissan owners were caught up this week in the largest-ever recall by a Japanese car manufacturer.

Models affected are the X-Trail, Primera (pictured), Almera and Almera Tino fitted with the 1.8 and 2.0-litre petrol engines. An engine management fault could cause the car to stall or fail to start, Nissan admitted.

It plans to write to owners affected by the end of this month. The vehicles will require a one-hour warranty repair.

Globally, an astonishing 2.6 million cars are affected, costing Nissan £84 million to fix. The models affected were built between 1998 and 2003.
