Currently reading: Peugeot plays Bond with double-oh

With the sudden influx of niche models such as Coupé-Cabriolets and SWs threatening to swell Peugeot’s range beyond the limits of its traditional three-digit badge strategy, the French firm has decided to lob an extra zero into the mix.

First up is the production version of the Sésame concept car (right), which will be first shown at the Paris Motor Show this autumn. Essentially a 107 MPV, the new 1007 name is pronounced ‘one double-oh seven’.

In future, this new four-digit designation will be used to denote a Peugeot niche variant within a mainstream three-digit range.

For example, 206 will continue as a hatchback moniker, the 206 CC will still be a coupé-cabriolet and 206 SW will remain the label for the estate.

But new variants, such as MPVs, soft-roaders or any other type of specialist vehicle that falls outside the remit of the existing categories, would get an extra zero, like the 1007.
