Smart Forfour is no more

Mitsubishi Motors and DaimlerChrysler have signed agreements to end production of the Smart Forfour today.

Negotiations to end production have been ongoing since March. The Forfour was produced at the NedCar factory in the Netherlands alongside its Mitsubishi sister car, the Colt, which will remain in production.

Mitsubishi’s 50 per cent stake in MDC Power, a joint venture engine plant with DaimlerChrysler (DC) in Germany, will be transferred wholly to DC. DC is to compensate Mitsubishi, meaning that its 2006 earnings projections remain unchanged.
