New York show latest: Mazda's new CX-9

Mazda has launched a seven-seat SUV crossover at the New York motor show - but the new model, called CX-9, is destined to stay in America.

The CX-9 uses a 3.5-litre V6 producing around 250bhp and the car is available with just front-wheel drive or Mazda's active four-wheel drive system. The Japanese firm says the car's styling is a break from traditional SUVs, encompassing 'soul of a sportscar'.

Mazda is also making some bold claims about the CX-9's interior packaging, stating that there is 'ample room for adults in every seat' in its three-row layout.

The CX-9 should go on sale in the United States next year, but Mazda has already said that there are no plans to introduce it to any other market.
