Race car's name hints at high-performance Nissan GT-R expected to be unveiled at Tokyo motor show

This is the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT500, which will join new Honda NSX and Lexus LF-CC race cars in next year's Super GT Championship in Japan.

The car, for which no powertrain details have been revealed, is significant for road car fans as its name hints at the upcoming road-going Nissan GT-R Nismo, which is being developed in association with the Williams Formula 1 team.

The Nissan GT-R Nismo road car is expected to get a power boost and numerous top-level aerodynamic tweaks in order to help launch the Nismo brand as a mainstream performance offshoot of Nissan, as well as justify a significant price hike over the standard car. It is expected to be launched at this November's Tokyo motor show.

Furthermore, the Nissan, Honda and Lexus have been developed to meet the DTM touring car chassis regulations, raising the prospect that they could be seen racing in Europe with modified engines.
