Holden has set a new Guinness World Record for the top speed reached by a production pick-up truck.
An LS2 6.0-litre V8 Maloo R8 reached 168.7mph under controlled conditions in South Australia with five-time Australian Touring Car champion Mark Skaife at the wheel, breaking the previous record of 154.6mph set in 2004 using a Dodge Ram SRT-10.
This weekend it could set a new record: the Maloo will be at London City Airport as we here at Autocar attempt to set a new London Speed Record, using the 1334m (0.8 mile) runway.
Also there will be a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, Ford GT, new Porsche 911 Turbo, Corvette Z06, Bentley Flying Spur, BMW M6, Alpina B5, Shelby Daytona Cobra, Aston Martin DB9 Sport Pack, Audi RS4 and a Kawasaki ZZR 1400 motorbike. Log on to Autocar.co.uk this Sunday (16 July) for details of how we get on.
