The UK’s biggest speed camera supporter has said that cameras are not succeeding in cutting road deaths. Association of Chief Police Officers road policing head Chief Constable Richard Brunstrom said: ‘We can’t keep going until there is a camera on each lamppost, we’ve got to stop somewhere.’

Meanwhile the Highways Agency’s new national traffic director Derek Turner declared last week that he is in favour of ‘black boxes’ that work with satellites to control cars’ speed.
