The stereotype of a speeder has been shattered by new research from Autocar and the RAC Foundation. Instead of teenage boys, the worst culprits are middle-aged professional men aged between 45 and 54.
Drivers of company cars, BMWs, Citroëns and Fords are most likely to speed, whereas those least likely to break the limit drive Volvos and live in Scotland. The RAC and Autocar are lobbying the Government to halt reliance on speed cameras.
