Deliveries from March next year

The Aston Martin Rapide will cost from £139,950.

That compares with £95,298 for a top-spec Porsche Panamera 4.8 V8 Turbo PDK and £89,860 for a Maserati Quattroporte 4.7 V8 GT S.

Standard kit in the four-seater will include a Bang & Olufsen sound system, heated memory seats and dual-cast brakes, and it will feature an adaptive damping system.

The Rapide is the first Aston to be built at the Magna Steyr plant in Graz, Austria, with each car taking about 220 man hours to build.

Deliveries will begin from March next year, and Aston is predicting 2000 sales a year.

I'm sorry but thats b*llocks, I sat in one at a dealership a few weeks ago and to be fair the interior is a very nice place to be and a massive leap forward over previous Porsches which have not warranted there premium price.

Working for JLR I have also sat in and driven the new XJ, again a very nice place to be and refreshingly different enough to distinguish itself from other large premium saloons and the XF, it is easily comparable to the Porsche and Aston in terms of quality and design, you sit quite low in the car which gives the driving experience a low slung soprty feel.

The Aston? Well I have to say yes its not a huge leap for Astons design language, but as they say, if it ain't broke etc... it is a gorgeous looking car still, I see them in the Gaydon site quite a lot and also saw one in a village in Warwickshire yesterday evening where it looked svelte and very classy - tbh I thought it was a regular DB9 as it drew alongside then as its took off I saw it was a Rapide - sweet! Ian Callum set Aston on a great design path with the DB7 and consequent AM's. Marek Reichman's time is surely now here to reinvent the AM design language and hope (forget the Lagonda and Cygnet I hope these are blips) that he will do something stunning but also very original soon.

Of the three well I'd take the XJ (saving a lot of money over the other two) and buy a secondhand AM Vantage - my all time favourite car.
