Currently reading: Avensis gets all-new engines

The Toyota Avensis is now available with two new engines. Joining the range are the 2.4-litre VVT-i petrol and 2.0 D-CAT, a much cleaner diesel.

Producing 161bhp and 170lb ft of torque, the 2.4-litre VVT-i engine powers the Avensis to 60mph in 9.1sec and achieves a top speed of 137mph. The flagship engine is available in either T4 or T Spirit trim, in both saloon and estate body styles.

Toyota’s D-CAT technology boasts much lower emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulates when compared to the regular D-4D unit. This is achieved through a new four-way catalyst and the oil-burner runs on regular diesel without the need for special fuel additives. With 114bhp, the D-CAT matches the performance claims of Toyota’s regular D-4D engine, while returning 46.3mpg. Only saloon versions will be receiving this ultra-clean diesel lump.

Pricing for the new models starts at £21200 for the 2.4-litre VVT-i and £17200 for the D-CAT.
