Arash Farboud’s 580bhp £80k supercar, driven by Autocar earlier this year (20 July), has bitten the dust. After a serious business rethink, the entrepreneur has changed his priorities, and plans to compete with Noble, TVR and Lotus with a new version of his GTS (above). Up to 75 cars will be produced every year, powered by Ford’s 3.0-litre Duratech V6 and built by Farboud Sports Cars — a new company founded by Chris Marsh, son of Marcos founder Jem Marsh. Farboud remains a shareholder, and will continue to handle marketing and promotion. Two versions have already been confirmed — the £48,000 270bhp naturally-aspirated GTS, and the £56,000, 355bhp GTS Turbo. Both should be ready within six months. A lightweight track-oriented special is also under consideration, pitched below £40k — directly at the Lotus Exige. ‘I got it wrong with the original GTS,’ Farboud said. ‘I thought we should sell racing cars for the road, but people actually want something comfortable that looks fast.’
