Peugeot has released these two teaser pictures of its new Mondeo-sized 407 saloon, revealing its elegant 307 CC-style tail for the first time. The pictures arrive just weeks after Autocar scooped the finished 407 on a photoshoot in South Africa (News, 4 November) ahead of its UK launch in the spring.
Prices will start at around £15,000 for the chic in-house designed 407, whose Ferrari-look-alike nose remains virtually unchanged from the Elixir concept unveiled at Frankfurt this year. Further cues from the Elixir, such as a glass roof and sporty wagon shape, will appear on the SW estateversion, which follows in June priced at around £1000 over equivalent saloons. The range will be rounded off with a coupé, replacing the handsome Pininfarina-designed 406 coupé, in 2005.
Based on the same platform as the Citroën C5, the sportier Peugeot will feature five engines from launch: three petrols and two diesels, with the jointly developed Ford/PSA 2.7 V6 diesel – also earmarked for Jaguar’s S-type – following late next year.
