Volkswagen and Vauxhall face delays for their junior coupe-cabriolets

With bizarre synchronicity, two of next year’s hard-top convertibles have both been delayed due to engineering problems with their complex folding roof mechanisms.

VW has admitted the new Golf-based Eos has been put back by at least two months, and the word on the street is that its clever five-piece roof is to blame.

Vauxhall has stuck to a more conventional three-piece design for its Astra Twin Top, but Autocar’s sources have also discovered that roof troubles will also cause a delay of a minimum of two months.
