Currently reading: Jeep goes large - and small

The Jeep range is to expand, with new 4x4s coming in above and below the current three-model line-up, according to a senior insider. Jeep has shown a pair of concepts in the last 12 months that hint strongly at the look of future cars — the huge Rescue (above) at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show and the compact three-seat Treo (right) shown at the New York Auto Show last April.

‘We’re not looking at a big, clumsy suburban-type SUV,’ said our source. ‘Our cars are very compact and nimble and we can’t have a Jeep that doesn’t handle like that.’

Both new models are due in UK showrooms during 2007, joining the all-new Grand Cherokee that arrives this summer.
