Lamborghini has put its track-only Gallardo Super Trofeo through its paces on the Vallelugna circuit near Rome.
This stunning hardcore Gallardo is in testing ahead of the launch of Lamborghini’s new one make championship - the Blancpain Super Trofeo - which begins at Silverstone on 9 May next year.
Based on the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4, the Super Trofeo has its power hiked up to 570bhp. It uses the e-gear transmission but gets heavily reworked suspension to improve its handling on the track.
Competition tyres from Pirelli and a beefier brake system with race-tuned ABS should give the Lamborghini serious grip and improved stopping power.
New aerodynamic features, like the adjustable carbon fibre rear wing, aid downforce. Inside the road-going Lamborghini Gallardo’s cockpit has been stripped back to a single racing seat and racing instruments.
Lamborghini said the motorsport Gallardo beat the lap record around the Italian track.
The new Lamborghini championship is aimed at both professional and amateur racers, with tyre changes banned in an effort to keep costs (relatively) low.
“The Gallardo Super Trofeo should be easy for gentlemen drivers to control, yet challenging for professional drivers,” said Giorgio Sanna, Lamborghini’s chief test driver.
