Maserati has officially confirmed plans to build a road-going version of its new FIA GT racing car, as revealed by Autocar last week.

The MCC race car will be based on the Ferrari Enzo - and the forthcoming MCS roadgoing version will share its Enzo-derived 6.0-litre V12, detuned to 620bhp.

Meanwhile, Maserati has sent its Coupé/Spyder replacement back to the drawing board. The Italdesign proposal has been judged 'too safe', so Maserati has approached Pininfarina to style the car.

Although it has lost as much as 18 months' development time, the new design is said to be more radical.
