Mazda has just released pictures of the 5-door hatchback version of the new Mazda 3, which will make its debut at the Bologna motor show.
The Focus rival will get a range of engines chosen specifically for the European market. Customers will get the option of a 1.6-litre turbodiesel, 1.6 and 2.0-litre petrol engines, or the new 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine first seen in the Mazda 6.
The new 2.2-litre turbodiesel will be available in two states of tune. One version will produce 148bhp, with a more powerful 182bhp model also available. Both engines will be cleaner and more economical than the outgoing 2.0-litre diesel unit.
Mazda recently unveiled a 4-door saloon version of the new 3 at the LA motor show. Both saloon and hatchback versions get a redesigned grille and a reworked chassis from the previous-generation 3, as well as a heavily redesigned interior.
Mazda also claims the new 3, which will go on sale in the spring, has undergone a weight-saving programme.
