Mazda opens lid on folding hard-top MX-5

Mazda is using next month’s British International Motor Show to launch the new MX-5 with electric folding hard-top.

The new car, to be known in Europe as the MX-5 Roadster Coupé, keeps the same lines as the cloth-topped car, though the rear deck has been slightly raised to accommodate the roof mechanism and retain the car’s 150-litre boot.

The roof, which is operated by a button on the dash, adds about 30kg to the car’s 1095kg weight, and around 10 per cent to the price, making an entry-level hard-top around £17,000 when it goes on sale at the end of the year.
