McRae's own car breaks cover

This is the McRae R4, the new competition and track day car developed in conjunction with former World Rally Champion Colin McRae.

Launched at last weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed, the R4 is powered by a 340bhp 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine. It's fitted with a six-speed sequential gearbox and can be built with either rear- or four-wheel drive. Future engine options could include turbocharging for even more extreme performance - even in its current guise, the R4 is expected to hit 60mph in five seconds.

McRae has developed the car in conjunction with DJM Race Preparations and Millington Engines. Each of the spaceframe machines will have to pass SVA approval but thereafter, they will be legal for road use.

Testing of the R4 is scheduled to start in early autumn. And the cost? Expect a price tag of around £130,000 for the 'base' model.
