Full details and hi-res pics of the new Subaru Outback

Subaru has released full details of its new Subaru Outback, which has now gone on sale.

The new model longer, wider and taller than the model it replaces and interior space has also been increased. It also gets Subaru’s new ‘family face’, effectively a new grille and new front headlamps.

It gets 17-inch alloy wheels and a chrome-framed glasshouse as standard, while inside it benefits from increased seat adjustability and new soft-touch plastics.

Three engines are offered from launch – a four-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel; a four-cylinder 2.5-litre petrol; and six-cylinder 3.6-litre petrol engine. All engines are horizontally-opposed.

The diesel is mated to a six-speed manual ‘box and 148bhp and 258lb ft of torque. The 165bhp, 169lb ft 2.5-litre petrol gets Subaru’s Lineartronic auto’ ‘box as standard, while the top-of-the-range 3.6-litre five-speed automatic R produces 256bhp and 258lb ft.

Standard kit includes leather seats, electric windows Bluetooth connectivity, six-CD stereo, dual-zone automatic air-con, cruise control, and automatic activation for wipers and headlights.

Prices start from £26,295 for the four-cylinder models and £33,295 for the top-spec R model.
