Volkswagen has relaunched its mock SUV Dune, based on the Polo hatch

Remember the mock off-roader Polo Dune from two years ago? Well, Volkswagen has launched another one, also called Polo Dune.

Based on a five-door Polo hatchback, the Dune adds body cladding, faux sumpguard and a raised ride height to give the look of a 4x4, although the car stays resolutely front-wheel drive.

The suspension is lifted by 15mm and the car sits on 17 inch wheels, which makes the Dune 70mm taller than a standard Polo. It gets extra side skirts, a front splitter and rear bumper extension, all finished in matt black, with a silver front air intake. Engine choices in the UK will be limited to the 1.4-litre 74bhp petrol and the 1.4-litre 69bhp TDi.

Inside there are sports seats, trimmed in the body colour, chrome-ringed instruments and alloy-effect pedals. Standard kit includes electric windows all round, electrically heated and adjustable mirrors and semi-automatic climate control.

The Dune is scheduled to go on sale in the UK next Spring for £12,645.
