First official pics and details of Citroen's budget MPV

This is the new Berlingo Multispace; the all-new generation of Citroen's budget MPV. It improves on the massively successful predecessor by offering a more spacious cabin, more storage, an opening tailgate window, removable seats and even a seat that transforms into a desktop when folded. Only the engine got smaller, with a new 1.6-litre 110bhp diesel unit now on offer. But all the space comes at a price, and the new Berlingo has gained an extra 24cm, now measuring 4.38 metres long. At least the 3000-litres of load space should justify the extra girth. Based on the Citroen C4 Picasso platform, Citroen are trying to broaden the appeal of the new, more civilised Berlingo. You can even get the Berlingo XTR; a model that offers heightened ride height, tinted windows and rubbing strips for a new breed of fashion-conscious Berlingo owner. This Berlingo/Peugeot Partner is vitally important for PSA. The previous models accounted for as much as 10 per cent of the company's global sales, so there's no room for error in the new cars. To find out what our resident Berlingo owner, Steve Cropley, feels about the new model, read his blog here.
