Currently reading: Subaru to take on X5 and XC90

Subaru is working on a new rival to premium SUVs like the BMW X5 and Volvo XC90. The new 4x4 will take the brand deeper into the SUV territory it has previously only brushed with its Forester crossover. Autocar can reveal that the new SUV will, like Volvo's XC90 (right), have seven seats. To be launched in a year’s time, the new SUV will be powered by a 3.0-litre engine driving all four wheels. The same platform will be used by Saab for a new crossover on sale in Europe in mid-’06. Subaru’s version won’t be sold here; it is aimed at the US and Japanese markets.
