Suzuki UK has responded to media reports that the Suzuki Jimny will soon be removed from sale in Europe, claiming it will still be sold in “very limited numbers throughout 2020”.
The rugged 4x4, launched in 2018, was reported to be under threat due to its relatively high CO2 emissions, a factor that Suzuki UK has already admitted would “adversely affect its whole range CO2 average in Europe after 2020”.
Although not officially confirmed, it is suggested that the model will be removed from sale in 2021. However, rumours suggest it could instead be transformed into an N1 class commercial vehicle to avoid the impact on CO2 targets. This would require the removal of the rear seats and a load bay conversion, as well as other homologation alterations.
In its most frugal manual gearbox form, the Jimny’s CO2 emissions are recorded at 154g/km - well above the 95g/km fleet average Suzuki will need to meet in 2021. In automatic form that figure rises to 170g/km.
Although UK sales figures for the Jimmy aren’t made public, Autocar understands a significant portion of the allocation of 1200 annual UK cars have already found homes. Suzuki says in a statement it will make “every effort to ensure delivery to its customers who have already placed an order”.

Well I put my deposit on a new car a few days ago and was rung the next day to say that there are no more new cars available. BUT. They had two pre-reg in the system, would I take one of those for a markup. Next morning only ONE left and I am now awaiting that car's arrival. Ironically I had an original deposit about 18months or more ago but decided it was too dear at 18500. I've am now about to pay 23000 for the same car, pre-registered from Suzuki! But in an age where nothing has character this is something to keep and park next to my CRX and the two Swifts on the drive!
One of the very few cars on
What a load of crap the car world has become.
New Jimny
Only Suzuki are to blame.
People say crazy EU rules and this and that... Is there anyone going to blame Suzuki?
I'm hardly an Eco warrior, I think Greta and Co have no grasp on reality, however technology shouldn't be going backwards. Suzuki have manufactured a small light vehicle which is great. They've equipped it with a small 1.5l petrol engine - great, which produces 154g/km Co2 in its most environmental form, and 170g/km if you want the auto version. Now that's criminal.
I really like the car, I really liked the basic nature of the one I drove over 10 years ago, but that engine is pants... it's lazy engineering and has no place in the modern world. Put it another way, Toyota also produce a petrol 4x4 SUV called a RAV4. The Co2 produced by that car, which is much heavier, is between 101 - 105g/km.
Unless Suzuki stop taking us all for mugs and manufacture an engine for this millenium, then I say good riddance to it. I know that'll not be a welcome view to many but tough. It's 2020 not 1990.
I agree - it really was a

These cars are never going to be used for big mileages....in short it doesn't matter.

You said it exactly.
Eco Warriors....
Built by Chinese "slave labour" at minimum cost using rare earth materials mined in horrendous conditions.
There are statistics highlighting and comparing the environmental costs of new manufacture compared to keeping your old Ford Focus running for another year. Guess which comes out on top?

More or less said what I think too.
I wouldn't say "good riddance", but would say, Suzuki you have no excuse, come in to the 21st Century!
