Seat’s Tango is heading for the last-chance saloon with a decision on whether or not to build the 2001 concept due by next Easter. The two-seater has been given a stay of execution while the car’s supporters build a business case around new underpinnings.
The original concept was built on the previous Ibiza’s PQ24 platform, but engineers are keen to use current components to keep costs down.
‘We continue to put pressure on from our side,’ said Seat’s chief designer Steve Lewis. ‘We feel it’s a car we need.’ Seat’s board says the car doesn’t need to turn in a profit, but must at least break even to get the go-ahead.
