Volvo prices its refreshed XC90

Volvo has revised its XC90 range with new engines and trim - and changed the prices too.

The five-cylinder 2.5-litre from the 2.5T and six-cylinder from the T6 are no more, replaced by the 3.2-litre six-cylinder and 4.4-litre V8 from the new S80. The D5 diesel continues as before.

That means an effective power hike across the petrol range: from 210bhp to 234bhp for the 3.2-litre, which takes 8.9 seconds to 60mph; from 272bhp to 310bhp for the range-topping V8, which reaches 60mph in 6.9 seconds.

The changes to the price list are smaller than those in the engine bay. Comparable models are up by around £200, though the range now starts at £32,820 for the D5 S. The previous entry-level 2.5 T was over £1,000 cheaper than that.

The V8 takes the top of the range up to a startling £53,195; the previous high point was £46,220.

Admittedly. you will obviously not be lacking for equipment at that level. Volvo has increased equipment levels across the range; even the entry-level D5 comes with a host of safety systems, cruise control, 17-inch alloys and an MP3-playing iPod-compatible eight speaker stereo.

Moving up to the £38,428 3.2-litre SE Lux (a new trim level) adds an automatic transmission, 18-inch alloys, superior leather and door mirror glass that repels water.
