New front-drive Vauxhall Mokka joins range; Mini expands four-wheel-drive line-up with new Countryman and Paceman derivatives

The 1.4-litre Turbo Vauxhall Mokka is now available with front-wheel drive. The engine had previously been mated exclusively to the car’s four-wheel drive system. Vauxhall claims 47.1mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 139g/km, making it the most frugal petrol-powered model in the range. Prices start at £16,719.

Mini has expanded its all-wheel-drive line-up to ten derivatives with the introduction of the ALL4 drivetrain to the Mini Countryman Cooper and Paceman Cooper. The newly introduced models feature a standard-fit six-speed manual gearbox, with the option of a six-speed automatic.

Next month’s Eco Technology Show at the Brighton Centre will feature a Transport Zone to highlight the latest in eco motoring. Exhibits include the Citroën DS5 diesel hybrid, Renault Zoe, Vauxhall Ampera and HydroGen4 and an electric Hummer. Other attractions include architect Zaha Hadid and Patrik Schumacher’s Z-Car (pictured) and Green Motorsport’s Wisper track car. Visit ecotechnologyshow.co.uk for more information.

The SMMT has announced a new chief executive. Michael Hawes will join the organisation in the autumn and replaces interim chief executive, Mike Baunton. Hawes has 20 years experience in policy and public affairs. He moves to the SMMT from Bentley, where he held a number of positions. He previously held roles at Toyota and Volkswagen.
