These are leaked pictures of the new Renault Megane R26-R - the most extreme Megane ever - which will debut at the London motor show in July. The R26-R is a road-legal, track-focused model that will be stripped down to reduce weight. It will have just two bucket seats, polycarbonate windows, a carbonfibre bonnet and a slimmer exhaust system. The changes ensure that the limited-edition model weighs 125kg less than a regular R26.The R26-R uses Renault’s 2.0-litre turbo engine with the same 227bhp and 229lb ft of torque as the normal model. But the R26-R races to 62mph in around six seconds, half a second quicker than the R26, and is likely to have much harder suspension, firmer damping and better brakes. The R26’s limited-slip diff and six-speed gearbox stay, but a short-throw gearshift will be introduced. The 18-inch alloys are likely to be available in either red or black. Options will include a competition roll cage, a lighter titanium exhaust and race-compound tyres for track enthusiasts. The R26-R should go on sale this year, at a cost of around £24,000.
