Ageing and too pricey, despite this special edition's high spec

What is it?

The TSIII is a special edition of the ageing Hyundai Coupé, brought in to spark interest in the range before an all-new model arrives next year. For £1575 over the SIII you get a larger spoiler, four exhaust pipes, anthracite-coloured alloys and Eibach sports springs. Inside there are quilted leather seats and door trims, and a smattering of TSIII logos.

What’s it like?

The bits unique to the TSIII are pretty good. The exterior tweaks make the car more aggressive without being too loud, and the quilted leather is a genuinely luxurious touch.

Unfortunately, the rest of the car is past its best-before date. The 2.0-litre motor is gruff and not very powerful, the steering feels imprecise and the interior is uncomfortably cramped for anybody long of leg or body.

So should I buy one?

We can’t really recommend it, especially as the £19,605 price makes it more expensive than the more exciting, practical and desirable Ford Focus ST.
