The UK will not achieve the government's target of 80% EV sales by 2030 unless incentives are made available to private buyers.
That's according to new Renault UK boss Adam Wood, who said that while the new Renault 5, priced from £22,995, can “break the glass ceiling” of mainstream electric car ownership, more is needed to achieve mass take-up.

Frankly, the only way we will hit these targets is to stop selling ICE cars. I dont imagine anyone without off street parking will choose an EV, price just doesnt come into it. If you cant charge it at home, why would you buy one? If you cant do every journey without having to use a public charger, why would you buy one?
Of course there are plenty of people who never do over 150 miles in a day, and have a drive way, and maybe a huge discount will get them to try an EV. But i cant see there being enough of them to match even this years targets, let alone the future ones. But of course stopping the sale of ICE might help makes avoid fines, but it will come at the price of massively lower sales
