All US cars to get reversing cameras by 2018; Mini Cooper D deliveries put back; hybrid VW Golf GTE gets UK debut

All new cars sold in the US from 2018 must have reversing cameras fitted as standard. The new law was passed yesterday to help counter the high number of deaths caused by reversing cars in the country.

Deliveries of Mini Cooper D models have been put back until June over acoustic problems with the car's three-cylinder diesel engine. Mini has confirmed that three-cylinder petrol models of the One and Cooper are not affected.

The hybrid Volkswagen Golf GTE will make its UK debut at the Gadget Show Live in Birmingham next week. The car was revealed at the Geneva motor show early last month, and promises the sporting quality of the GTI combined with fuel consumption of up to 188.3mpg.

Jeep will show two new concept cars at a special rally event this month. The Cherokee Dakar and Jeep Wrangler Mojo both feature extensive modifications, and have been created as a collaboration between Jeep and Mopar. A range of six new cars will be shown at the Easter Jeep Safari, which takes place in the US.
