Volkswagen has taken the wraps off its Scirocco GT24 concept car at the Worthersee festival in Austria. Billed as the “road-going sister car” to the factory-prepared Scirocco 24-hour racer, the GT24 features a race-prepped 2.0-litre TSI that churns out 296bhp. Torque is sent to the front wheels via six-speed DSG gearbox and features revised ratios. The GT24 is larger in every dimension compared to the recently launched Scirocco production car. Length and width have increased to accommodate the wider track, while adjustable dampers drop the ride height by 75mm.The race kit doesn’t stop there, the GT24 comes with a pair of Recaro bucket seats, five-point racing harnesses and a stainless steel rollcage. There’s even a fire extinguisher. Will it ever reach production? Well, “VW says that this concept is much more than just a styling exercise”. Draw your own conclusions…
