Most manufacturers charge a significant surcharge for their diesel-engined superminis, but Kia has announced that prices for petrol and diesel versions of its new Rio supermini will be identical.
Both the 96bhp 1.4 petrol and 109bhp 1.5-litre CRDi turbodiesel will start at £7995 for the base GS, which still offers two airbags, air-conditioning, front electric windows and a CD/MP3 player.
The £8995 LX adds alloy wheels, rear electric windows and active head restraints, while an extra £1000 buys the optional dynamic pack, featuring a rear spoiler, sunroof and ESP.
Both engines come mated to a five-speed manual transmission, with a four-speed auto available as a £1000 option on petrol versions.
