Squared-off helm is swapped for traditional wheel as electric crossover gets fresh look inside and out

The Audi Q4 E-tron has been refreshed with a longer range, quicker charging and a fresh look inside and out.

Its new 'APP350' motor is said to be 10% more efficient than the previous 'APP310', boosting range by around 19 miles for rear-wheel-drive Q4s or roughly 10 to 20 miles for dual-motor, four-wheel-drive variants.

This means the longer-legged, rear-driven Q4 E-tron Performance is now capable of driving 359 miles between charges, up from 338 miles previously, while the coupé-roofed Sportback Performance can do 368 miles compared with 347 miles previously.

The four-wheel-drive Q4 E-tron Quattro can go 347 miles in SUV form, while opting for the Quattro Performance cuts range to 336 miles.

The new motor produces either 201bhp or 282bhp in Performance spec, while the dual-motor, four-wheel-drive Quattro models get outputs of 295bhp and 335bhp.

The range-topping Quattro Performance can now be charged at up to 185kW, an increase of 10kW.

Visually, the updated Q4 is differentiated from the existing car by its reworked front lights and ‘singleframe’ front grille. The daytime running lights now offer a choice of four different graphics, which can be changed on the fly, while the grille is now colour-matched to the body.

Inside, the Q4 gains the curved display cluster introduced with the A5, Q3 and Q5, with an 11.9in digital instrument panel and a 12.8in infotainment touchscreen. A 12in passenger touchscreen can be added as an optional extra.

Audi Q4 E-tron update interior

The squared-off steering wheel found in previous Q4s has been swapped for one with a traditional round rim – and it drops haptic sliders in favour of physical scroll wheels.

Meanwhile, the physical climate controls have been removed in favour of a touchbar on the infotainment screen.

UK pricing for the new Q4 has yet to be announced, but it's expected to rise slightly over the current car, which starts at £47,355 in SUV form and £48,855 as a Sportback.

The text here doesn't pick out other, in my view more important changes in those pics.

MMI now has full map in drivers display. Other Audi models have been upgraded for MY26, not sure if present Q4 was given this mild facelift. The piano black centre trim has also been replaced. That's something I haven't seen on facelifted cars. And it's a positive as far as I'm concerned.

As an owner of the squared off wheel with haptic volume controls and no physical heating buttons, I don't have a single issue with it. I'm wondering if those who complain do so out of habit or have they actually lived with the car?

A squared off wheel is no different to drive with from a round wheel but has the advantage of squared off bottom allows more room for your knees when you enter or exit the car. And the squared off top makes heads up easier to see. The advantage of a fully round wheel is what exactly?

The heating controls are always on display so the advantage of physical buttons is? Totally get it if the screen is slow or unresponsive but that's not an accusation you can direct at this particular MMI. It's also a fully auto system. Had my car 4 months now. Switched heated seats on/off as I did in my old car and haven't once needed to touch the heating / air con. ( if I did it wouldn't have been any different ). I fail to understand why people get so upset about lack of controls on a fully auto climate.

The steering scroll wheels? If you have the previous haptic wheel and pretend the car has steering wheel dials and it operates EXACTLY the same way. Take it from me, I've had three Skodas, one SEAT, and two Golfs all with the traditional knurled rotary volume wheel. I'm not saying the haptic solution is any better ( it'll probably be cheaper to build tho ) but what I'm saying is it's not any worse either. Those who complain obviously aren't using it correctly. There's no need to fully swipe up and down, just use the haptic control as you would the rotary control and Bob's your uncle.

Another thing audi seems to have learned are those side vents on the dash. In the majority of the new design language, these vents are surrounded in silver or chrome trim, the problem being under certain weather conditions, they reflect in the rear view door mirrors which means only half the mirror is useable. This new Q4 have dark trim surrounds. Glad Audi learned something.

The text not only does not pick things up, it makes a lot things up. The facelift is mainly bumpers and the displays. Motors were already updated, headlights are identical to before. only grille, not its surroundings, and two side pieces are changed in the bumper, out of 10 parts.

I have a full map in the display, nothing new now it got the Q6 MMI. So this is not an update.

There was never piano black in the Q4, just gloss black plastic. I have piano black in a 20 yo Mercedes, Aston and BMW, they're wood. Still, the steering wheel is still gloss "touch" buttons.

How unadventurous does a model of car have to be when a highlight of a facelift is the fitting of a round steering wheel!

idcareee 27 April 2026

it's not a highlight at all, q4 always had 3 options of a steering wheel in all versions. round, flat bottom and flat bottom and a flat top.You were never forced into a specific wheel, there were 6 options, 3 standard and 3 s line.
