New Fisker Karma to be made by Valmet Automotive

Fisker’s Karma luxury hybrid saloon is to be made in Finland by Valmet Automotive, the firm that used to build the Cayman and Boxster for Porsche.Valmet Automotive was contracted by American firm Fisker to build its plug-in hybrid after Porsche decided to switch production of the Boxster to Magna Steyr’s facility in Austria. Fisker claims that Valmet’s experience working with Porsche will ensure that its new contender is of suitably high quality. “We are thrilled to have found the ideal manufacturing partner in Valmet Automotive,” said Fisker Automotive CEO, Henrik Fisker. “Valmet offers us the quality and speed necessary to meet our production goals.” The first examples of the Karma should roll off the production line late in 2009. The Karma has a 50-mile all-electric range and 350 miles of total range; Fisker claims that the car can achieve 100mpg. It has a top speed of 125mph and sprints from 0-60mph in under six seconds. Fisker aims to build 15,000 of these luxury hybrids per year, with more than half of annual sales anticipated outside of America.
