Currently reading: McLaren reveals MSO Senna Carbon Theme ahead of Geneva motor show reveal

Yellow and green details take inspiration from Ayrton Senna’s helmet livery, dominated by carbonfibre. Blistering performance of the 789bhp hypercar remains the same

McLaren has revealed its Geneva motor show-bound Senna hypercar customised by the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) division.

The show car features bare carbonfibre bodywork, with flashes of yellow and green across the exterior and interior paying tribute to the car’s namesake, Ayrton Senna – Senna’s racing helmet was finished in yellow, green and black. No performance upgrades have been applied to the 789bhp, 590lb ft hypercar by MSO

The Carbon Theme pack is one of five available from MSO for the Senna and adds seven-spoke carbonfibre and aluminium wheels that weigh 10% less than the standard wheels and are now available across all Sennas. The wheels also have different-coloured wheel nuts for left and right wheels. McLaren remains tight-lipped on the other four themes for the Senna.

The MSO personalisation adds around £300,000 to the price of the Senna, bringing the car’s total price to £1,050,000. It takes 250 man-hours for the yellow detailing on the sills, wing and front bodywork alone. The brake calipers are finished in Laurel Green.

Inside, there's black Alcantara upholstery for the seats, but the colour flourishes continue, with the seat stitching, speakers and steering wheel centre strip finished in yellow, while the door gas strut matches the brake calipers' green shade.

Almost every Senna customer has opted for some form of MSO customisation, McLaren revealed. MSO boss Ansar Ali said: “With the car having generated so much interest since its unveiling in December, we knew we needed to produce something very special in order to showcase the unique talents of MSO. I would not be at all surprised to see a rise in expressions of interest for MSO Visual Carbon Fibre cars similar to this one.”

It looks like the sort of car

It looks like the sort of car clowns used to drive in to circus rings.  But people are more likely to laugh at the person driving this.

Oh dear

All very Carlos Fandango. No sniggering at the back please.

I guess what we really want to know is how much quicker can it lap the Ring than the P1 LM Brundle drove. The LM is a track car (the GTR) made road legal, in esssence what the Senna is, albeit one designed not just made road legal. I want to see Ferrari and Porsche weeping by the roadside.
