Lamborghini has been testing the drop-top variant of its Nurburgring record-breaking Huracan Performante

The Lamborghini Huracán Spyder Performante has been spotted testing in Germany, all but confirming the car’s planned launch later this year.

Visually – aside from the obvious – the Spyder maintains the coupé’s extreme styling, large wing and aerodynamic upgrades, and is expected to also maintain its 631bhp power figure.

It’s likely that the car will maintain the coupé’s 202mph top speed and 2.9sec 0-62mph time as the standard Huracán models do, but a spokesman for Lamborghini couldn’t confirm any details about the car. Extra weight and drag may mean a slight dip in performance.

It’s the first time the hardcore soft-top has been spotted testing, suggesting a launch time later this year. A world premiere at the LA motor show later this year is likely, given the show’s traditionally more convertible-filled exhibitor list.

The Huracán Performante in coupé form costs £213,000; the regular Spyder carries an £18,000 premium over the coupé, so a price for the Huracán Spyder Performante of over £230,000 is likely.

Lamborghini recently snatched the Nürburgring lap record from the Porsche 918 Spyder, achieving a time of 6:52; 5sec faster than the Porsche's record which it set in September 2013. Although the speed the car reached was 14mph slower than a similar attempt in the Aventador SV, the Huracán Performante beat its stablemate by 7sec.

I no more want a road car set

I no more want a road car set up for a race track than I want to walk around in a pair of running spikes.

Doing the decorating

The roof really spoils it, the coupé looks vastly better. The wallpaper disguise job rather smooths out the lines though, I'd have a coupé painted with the swirls in dayglo green or orange. If one is going to have a Lambo one may as well brazen it out.
