Jeep’s upcoming Nissan Qashqai rival has been leaked ahead of its official debut

Pictures of the Jeep Compass have been leaked ahead of its official reveal. It will enter the fiercely competitive small SUV market alongside the Nissan Qashqai, Ford Kuga and Seat Ateca

From the leaked pictures from a Chinese car news website, we can see the full styling of the car, as well as the vast majority of the interior, as well as spec badges, differing bumper and exterior trims, and alloy wheel designs.

The Compass has now been officially revealed - read the full story here

The Compass name will be used for the car; it was rumoured that the ‘Patriot’ badge would be resurrected, but on this Chinese example at least, the car’s Compass badging is revealed.

According to the Chinese site on which the images surfaced, an 8.4in infotainment screen is on the dashboard, the central position of which is confirmed by the images. The styling of the car uses a more compact version of the Grand Cherokee's front design, rather than adopting the more divisive styling of the standard Cherokee.

No information about the Jeep Compass's engines has been revealed, but it’s very likely that the engines from the middle and top of the smaller Renegade range will also be used on the Compass.

This means that a 1.6 E-Torq petrol engine, as well as a 1.6 and 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engines, will feature in the range. The pictures also reveal three spec levels for the Compass: Sport, Longitude and Limited.

The Jeep Compass is a rebadged version of the old Dodge Caliber. It is a poor Kuga or Qashqai alternative by most measures

@Jason and catnip

I was going to remark that this is less, ahem, "challenging" than recent Jeep designs, but I take the "could be anything" point fully. At least my boxy 1998 Cherokee looked like a proper Jeep, even if it was a bit pants.

Given nothing of the styling

Given nothing of the styling says 'Jeep' other than a grill insert, I presume an identical FIAT version is to follow shortly?

This is really dull. The

This is really dull. The Cherokee and Renegade may not be to everyone's taste but they're far more interesting to look at. This could be anything, with a Jeep grille fixed on the front.
