Mercedes' answer to the Audi A6 Allroad and Volvo V90 Cross Country is expected to go on sale early next year, and will be seen for the first time in Paris later this month

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain has been previewed ahead of its official debut at the Paris motor show later this month.

Mercedes' planned rival to the Audi A6 Allroad and Volvo V90 Cross Country is expected to go on sale next year, and has already been seen testing. The jacked-up, all-wheel drive estate car features rugged styling, including new front and rear bumper treatments seen in the teaser video below. Spy pictures have also shown it will receive plastic underbody protection and flared wheel arches.

It's thought that the All Terrain will borrow engines from the rest of the E-Class line-up, which currently consists of an entry-level E220d and the more powerful E350d.

The teaser video specifically shows a new driving mode for the All Terrain, which is expected to adjust elements like the throttle, steering and transmission to ease progress away from the tarmac.

Other, less premium options in this market include the Seat Leon XPerience and VW Passat Alltrack.
