Toyota has decided that the 2005 model of its flagship 4x4, the Land Cruiser Amazon, found such a winning formula, that only minor revisions were necessary to update it for 2006. On the exterior, small cosmetic changes have been made adding a new look grille and restyled front and rear lights. A choice of three new metallic paint finishes - Tyrol Silver, Slate Blue and Island Green - are also available.
Inside, a new automatically dipping electric rear view mirror has been introduced as standard, and an in-car entertainment system (ICE) featuring a DVD player and front headrest mounted monitors is available as a new accessory.
Under the bonnet, the Amazon is, as before, available with either 4.2-litre turbodiesel or 4.7-litre V8 petrol engines. The 4.2TD can be mated either to a five-speed manual or automatic greabox, while the 4.7V8 is available exclusively with automatic.
The 2006 model, on sale now, has received a minor price hike, with the manual 4.2TD starting at £45,995 rising to £48,675 for the 4.7V8. The optional ICE can be added for the extra charge of £2,200.
