Currently reading: All-wheel-drive option for new Golf

Volkswagen has unveiled its first four-wheel-drive version of its new Golf. The 4Motion will be available as a 148bhp Golf GT FSI 2.0 and a 138bhp GT TDi 2.0. Although continental sales kick off next month, Brits will have to wait until summer 2005. Price haven't yet been set; expect a premium of around £1200.

Like the last model, the 4Motion uses a Haldex central coupling, which can divert up to 100 per cent of drive to the rear wheels. The only exterior distinguishing marks are the badge and twin exhaust pipes.
